HERBAL REMEDIES FOR PETS PART II: ESSENTIAL OILS & DOGS

Last year I posted a great article from Mountain Rose Herbs on Herbal Remedies for Pets. This year I have decided to do a second part and post some more great remedies. These recipes mostly use essential oils and are from a great book: Complete Book Essential Oils and Aromatherapy by Valerie Ann Worwood.

ARTHRITIC DOG TREATMENT

Rosemary Essential Oil-- 4 drops

Lavender Essential Oil-- 2 drops

Ginger Essential Oils-- 3 drops

Diluted in 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil

Try to get the oil onto the affected joints by working through the coat and into the skin. Starting at the back, massage into the muscles in rhythmic movements working inward from the haunches. Cover the whole of the legs and also the vertebrae. Don't worry about this being messy-your dog will soon lick much of the oil off but by then the correct amount of essential oil will have penetrated the skin and got into the affected tissue and bone-and by the licking it will also reach the digestive system.

DOG TOOTHPASTE & BREATH DEODORIZER

Baking Soda--2 tablespoons

Clove Essential Oil--1 drop

Aniseed Essential Oil--1 drop

Make up the toothpaste and use as needed, with cotton wool rather than a toothbrush to avoid damaging the gums. Dampen the cotton wool, dip it into the mixture, and use on the teeth. Afterwards, give the dog a drink of water.

COAT IN POOR CONDITION

Olive Oil--1 tablespoon

Wheatgerm Oil--1 tablespoon

Carrot Essential Oil-- 5 drops

Evening Primrose Oil(not an essential oil)-- 5 drops

Add 1/4 teaspoon of the above blend to each feed

EASY FLEA SHAMPOO

Add 1 drop of either lemongrass or citronella essential oil to your dogs shampoo. Large dogs like Great Danes will require 2 drops. Most dogs seem to like the aroma, and it gives them a nice fresh smell.

FLEA COLLARS

Alcohol--1/4 teaspoon

Cedarwood Essential Oil--1 drop

Lavender Essential Oil--1 drop

Citronella Essential Oil--1 drop

Thyme Essential Oil--1 drop

Mix with 2 drops of the following mixture:

1 teaspoon vegetable oil in with 1 drop of garlic essential oil has been diluted.

An essential oil collar provides excellent protection against fleas and is very cheap and easy to make. Buy a soft material collar --a cheap one from a market will do--and soak it in the above mixture.

If you are unsure if an herbal treatment is right for your pet please check with your Vet before starting any treatment.

Around the Holidays it can be quite scary to have to be gluten free or even dairy (free).

But don't you fret! Don't feel blue!

I've got a few tasty treats just for you!

They are easy to make and not all half baked.

Your friends will start to drool and you will be so cool!

1. Arrowheadmills Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix

Ingredients:

organic chocolate chips (organic sugar, organic chocolate liquor [non-alcohol], organic cocoa butter, soy lecithin, organic vanilla flavor), organic tapioca starch, organic evaporated cane juice, organic whole grain brown rice flour, organic whole grain sorghum flour, rice starch, organic brown sugar, organic vanilla powder, baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), xanthan gum, sea salt.

(I can't have butter so I used a soy free dairy free butter substitute like: earth balance natural soy free buttery spread , to make this and I always use rice milk as my milk substitute in any recipe)

2. Arrowheadmills Gluten Free Brownie Mix

Ingredients:
organic evaporated cane juice, organic white rice flour, organic chocolate chips (organic sugar, organic chocolate liquor [non-alcohol], organic cocoa butter, soy lecithin [added as an emulsifier], organic vanilla flavor), organic potato starch, organic cocoa powder, tapioca starch, natural vanilla flavor with other natural flavors, (organic sugar, natural vanilla flavor with other natural flavors), xanthan gum, sea salt, baking soda, and non-aluminum baking powder (monocalcium phosphate, baking soda, cornstarch).

(I think this takes eggs to make so it is not egg free but you may be able to use an egg substitute. I have not made this in some time but that does not make it not super yummy!!)

3. Enjoy life foods Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies

ingredients:

Sorghum Flour, Brown Pure Cane Sugar, Chocolate Chips (Evaporated Cane Juice, Chocolate Liquor, Non-Dairy Cocoa Butter), Expeller-Pressed Vegetable Oil (Safflower Oil and/or Sunflower Oil), Date Paste, Grape, Apple & Pear Juice Concentrates, Water, Natural Rice Dextrin, Vanilla, Baking Soda, Xanthan Gum, Salt, Rosemary Extract

(Really tasty!! Great any time!)

6. Oetker Organic Pudding Mixes

(Oetker makes several other kinds of pudding mixes. I make them dairy free by adding vanilla rice milk instead of milk. The rice milk works well but it is best eaten on the day you make it. )

LAUGHING WILLOW'S KITCHEN MILET & FLAX PIZZA WITH ROSTED RED PEPPER SAUCE

This Pizza is a dream come true for me! It is tomato, wheat, gluten, dairy, corn, and soy free. The most important part of this pizza is the red pepper sauce. It is a little involved to make but totally amazing!

SAUCE

1. Five or Six Red Peppers

2. Olive Oil

3. Half an Onion

4. Five Carrots

5. Four Cloves Garlic

1. Cut peppers in half

2. Coat backs of peppers in olive oil

3. Place on a cookie sheet covered with foil backside up

4. Set oven to Broil and cook until pepper skins are blackened

5. Place peppers in a bowl and cover with plastic for 30 min to an hour

6. Slice Carrots.

7. Chop Onions, and Garlic

8. Stir Fry Carrots until they are slightly browned

9. Add Onions and cook until onions are clear

10. Turn off heat and add in Garlic

11. Peel the skins off the peppers

12. Blend peppers in blender with one half of stir fried veggies

13. Pour into a pot on the stove and add the other half of veggie

14. The sauce will be very thick and a little like a paste.

CRUST AND TOPPINGS

1. For the Crust I used Sami's Bakery Millet and Flax Pizza Crust. It is wonderful!! It is super tasty and wheat free!

2. For the Cheese I used the best non dairy cheese ever: Daiya Vegan Cheese Mozzarella!!

3. We added mushrooms, onions, more peppers, and olives

4. You can use, at this point, any topping you might normally use on a pizza

5. Enjoy!!

★Sometimes I feel like my head is going to explode if I don't write stuff down. Do you ever feel like this? Since I started my little business I have filled up like four little notebooks with ideas, information, and more information.

★I have re-discovered She-Ra Princess of Power this week thanks largely to Netflix It is still as good as I remembered it.

I can see why I loved it as a little kid: good guys always win, everyone has cool magical powers, She-Ra has not only a talking horse but a talking white horse with rainbow wings and a golden horn!

I decided that my favorite is Madame Razz. She is this little oldish witch with a talking broom. She rhymes and is always messing up her spells and she talks with an accent like a NY Jewish mother!

I love how everyone works together to beat the bad guys and that everyone has their own special skills to bring to the fight. The acting still holds up for me after all of these years and I even found myself breaking out a laugh or two or three at some parts. The show made me smile and a little wishful for that horse with the wings!

Last week I went to "make my own pottery" with my two friends Helen and Rose. We went to Front Porch Cafe. The Front Porch in Kill Devil Hills, NC has coffee, make your own pottery and a bead shop.

I have not done anything like this since I was about seven years old (I made a unicorn with a gold horn and I think I still have it somewhere!) and was not sure what to expect. Since you are not creating the cup, or bowl itself; most of the art is in the painting of the pice. I thought I would mind this but I did not. I found it a ton of fun, super easy and we are going again this week! I am always creating art with the idea of selling it later and it was nice just to make something for me.

LAUGHING WILLOW'S KITCHEN CORNBREAD AND VEGGIES

Laughing Willow's Kitchen features gluten, soy, dairy, peanut, meat and yeast free and sometimes vegan, recipes and packaged foods.

I have been wanting to be able to eat cornbread for years but most of the cornbread mixes on the market have wheat flour already added in! When I found Bobs Red Mill Cornmeal I was very excited! You can find this online or at your local health food store or at your local grocery store. Bobs Red Mill is a great company and has many other great flours (not all gluten free but still great). I used the recipe on the back of the packaged with a few substitutes for the dairy, butter, and flour. This has eggs so it is not vegan.

(Original Recipe)

MY RECIPE

*1 CUP BOB'S RED MILL MEDIUM GRIND CORNMEAL

*1 CUP Arrowhead Mills Gluten Free All Purpose Baking Mix (Flour)

*1/2 tsp. SALT

*3 tsp. BAKING POWDER

(I added less baking powder because the flour had some in it. I really guessed at this but it came out great so I guess it worked)

* I LEFT OUT THE SUGAR

* 1 EGG

*1 CUP VANILLA RICE DREAM (Milk)

1/4 CUP Earth Balance Natural Soy Free Buttery Spread (Butter)

I did not have a sifter so I just mixed the dry ingredients together and I did not have a blender but I used a whisk and it worked great. I greased my pan with the buttery spread and followed the rest of the recipe as it was written.

VEGGIES

*FIVE CARROTS CHOPPED

*1/2 RED ONION CHOPPED

*THREE LARGE CLOVES GARLIC

*1/2 CAN PINO BEANS

*ONE ZUCCHINI SLICED AND THAN CUT INTO QUARTERS

Chop all veggies and stir fry in a pan with some olive oil

(you can use more veggies if you want to make a larger amount. This serves about two people)

For lunch on our second day we ate at Chai Pani (indain street food).
It was so great!!! Above is the Potato Uttapam. A uttapam is a crepe made with rice and lentil flour with a variety of toppings that is served with sambar (vegetable stew made with lentils and tamarind) and coconut chutney. The potato uttapam comes with potato hash with mustard seeds, onions & cilantro. It is both vegan and gluten free! Chai Pani has many vegan/gluten free items on their menu and they where super nice and helpful when I told them what I was not able to eat!! The Food is Amazing!!!

This is the 2nd dish we got. It is a Corn Bhel: Fresh corn, onions, cilantro, potato, tomato, cucumber, puri crisps tossed in house made roasted cumin/lime dressing. It is Vegan but we where able to get it gluten free as well and the gluten item was not missed at all. It was wonderful!!

We fell in love with Firestorm Cafe and Books! We went two times in our short visit and both times we felt like we could have hung out for hours just reading books and drinking Almond Milk Chi! Yes! Another place where a non-dairy alternative can be find! (just have to request it)

Firestorm is a coffee shop, book store and they have events like music and game night. It is very cool because it is worker owned and operated! Each worker-owner is responsible for both weekly shift work and a share of managerial duties. Decision making is achieved using a formalized consensus process in which each participant has equal weight!

We started the next day by finishing up a mad game of hide and sneak with the kitty(She hiding, We finding). We finally found her in the downstairs closet behind the hot water heater (Also found lots of spider webs, dust, and other creepy stuff). Therefore much coffee was needed after that so we went to our favorite place: The Dripolator Coffee House

This is the GREATEST!! Not because it is the only thing I can eat there but also because it is sweet, pumpkiny, and WONDERFUL! Ok I lied I can also have their smoothies, which are very good too! I just ask them to leave out the dairy and add apple juice and you never know the difference! Ok I never know the difference. I know some of you would know but the point is that even without the dairy it is a pretty great drink!!

(P.S. They have just been bought out by Wholefoods Market so they are not so small anymore but we still love them! )

We live in an area of lots of very small towns all strung together. While we do have a wonderful health food store, that meets all of our needs and has super nice owners and is five minutes from our house (Beach Organics) it was so great to go to a BIG store!

Mountains here we come! I have not been back home in a year and it was our 1st vacation since we got our cat. It is one long drive west straight across the state of NC. We start at the ocean and end up in the mountains of WNC.

ZUZU, our cat, called shot gun before me so I had to spend the eight hour trip in the back!

She wishes!! Cats are not allowed up front! She did not take it well and proceeded to mope in her litter box for most of the trip. We were able to split the driving so our trip went very well

Hi everyone! Sorry I have not been blogging lately! It seems that with summer in full swing so is my life. Busy Farmers markets, a part time job, getting my car fixed after a minor accident, doctors visits, and working on new products for the Christmas season has left me sadly with little time to write. However, today I have stolen a moment and I hope to soon get back to more regular postings.

With my parents visiting from Asheville NC for the 4th our fridge was so full that I just had to take a picture of it!

The watermelon was awesomely sweet and huge! My parents got it in some road side stand on the way to us. We still have a ton of it leftover.

Mom got a lot of great veggies from the Manteo Farmers Market on Saturday. They love to come hang out at the market when I am selling.

I took my first shot at taking some pictures of the fireworks but sadly I got just a lot of pictures of black sky! Maybe next year I will be fast enough. Hope everyone had a nice holiday!

So if you are really into video games like I am you are more than likely aware of the yearly E3 Expo (Electronic Entertainment Expo-- E3 Expo is the world's premiere trade show for computer and video games and related products) that is happening right now. Nintendo has announced a brand new Kirby game: Kirbys Epic Yarn for the Wii. The fabric themed world looks amazing! You can even us a zipper to open new areas of a level! Out of all of the great games announced this is one of the ones that I am most excited about. Take a look at this trailer to check out the cool way that everyday elements of sewing are used to make up this great 2D platformer!

STRAWBERRY SEASON

I am finally able to post up these pictures I took two weeks ago when Justin and I went to pick some strawberries. It is a lot of fun and we have a large farm really close to us. Last year we were only able to catch the end of the season but not this year! We freeze the berries but they don't last long! I just love how pretty they look hanging on the plant. Looking for the perfect berry is like looking for red gold under all the green leaves. It is really nice to be able to take a break from all the busyness of life to be outside for an hour, getting excited about bright red tasty things.

MANTEO FARMER'S MARKET

The first day of the Manteo Farmer's Market went super well!! Justin and I had a great time and we sold a ton of lip balms and salves. There were many new vendors and we had a large turn out of buyers. The market is every Saturday from 8 am to 12 pm in Manteo NC. If you are going to be in the area come by and check out the market. This year the market will run till October and already I think it is going to be better than last year.

AWSOME VANILLA RECIPES

Vanilla has to be one of my favorite smells and tastes! Check out this and other great vanilla recipes that are super easy and can be done at home on mountainroseherbs.com. They all look super yummy!!!

Vanilla Infused Body Oil

2 organic vanilla beans

1 cup organic jojoba oil

Slice vanilla beans lengthwise and cut into small pieces. Place in a glass jar, cover with oil, cap, and shake well. Store in a sunny and warm windowsill for 1-2 months and shake daily. When the oil has reached the desired strength, strain the vanilla beans out using cheesecloth and pour the infused oil into a bottle. You can even make a more concentrated version of this oil to use as a natural perfume!

Life has really been kicking me in the butt more than usual lately and is why I have not blogged in the longest time. I got so many issues to deal with I think my brain is going to explode! I got money and job issues, car issues, health issues and I have yet to find my mother a gift for mother's day and my best friend a gift for her birthday that was on the 5th!!!!

However having seen the movie Swing Time, I have been inspired to pick myself off, dust myself off and start right over again( It is a great movie if you are feeling blue). So enjoy this post of lemony, citrus, and orangey crafty finds and wish me good luck in making all of my lemons into lemon aid. And if any of you are also driving a bumpy road I hope this makes you feel just a little better as well.

My boyfriend and I saw this great post on kotaku.com. It was a list of ten unforgettable video game songs. We loved the list so much that we decided to make our own list of some of our most loved video game music. It was super hard because there is so much great game music out there. After much debate we narrowed our list down to just six! So here they are in no order whatsoever:

Ok! It is time again to talk about some of my favorite herbs. Missed my post on DANDELIONS? Check it out under USEFUL BACKYARD PLANTS PART ONE. I have picked chickweed because this is the time of the year when it is at it's best and it is just a wonderful plant! Chickweed is a backyard, front yard, under trees, and under bushes plant. Chickweed loves loves to grow in places that are cool, damp and shady. This is a tiny plant that glows low to the ground and is easily missed if you don't look closely. It is a little harder to identify that dandelions but once you know what you are looking for you will start to see them everywhere!

Chickweed is best identified by:

"Many very small starry white flowers, with five petals so deeply divided they appear to be ten petals; growing in low, dense, vibrant-green mats; single line of hairs on smooth stalk."

p. 115 Healing Wise by Susun Weed

I love chickweed because it is all ready to eat. You just reach down and grab a handful and eat it! The leaves, flowers, and stalks are the parts that can be used. You can put this plant in a great summer salad, make a healing salve and much more...! I make an oil, that I use in my LIP BALMS from fresh chickweed infused in olive oil. This oil has the wonderful ability to heal skin irritations and draw out inflammation.

SOME USES

Cooling

This plants love of the cool and shady gives you a clue as to one of its many uses. It is extremely helpful at cooling things down! Susun Weed explains that for "Those with fevers, infections, inflammations, all sorts of "hot" diseases are relieved, tempered and chilled by the little star lady." (Healing Wise p. 121)

One of the best and fastest ways to use chickweed to take the inflammation out of summer bug bites, or bee stings is to use a spit poultice. Thats right! A spit poultice. It is exactly what it sounds like. You basically take some fresh chickweed, put it into you mouth, chew it up a little, take it out of you mouth, and apply it to the bite. If you are in the woods and are stung by a bee this will come in very handy. You would just apply a lot of little spit poultices as fast as possible to the affected area.

Eye Healer

"Chickweed also has an excellent reputation for aiding those dealing with eye problems including infections, sties, conjunctivitis (pink eye), and tired, sore, inflamed, irritated eyes...." (Opening our Wild Hearts to the Healing Herbs p.91)

A Treatment for Pink Eye

1 quart glass mason jar

1 cup dry chickweed leaf

sea salt

cotton balls

hot water

Fill the mason jar with the dry chickweed and cover all the way to the top with water that you have brought to a boil on the stove. Cap the jar and leave overnight. The next morning strain out the herbs (you may need to use a fine mesh strainer for this) and put the remaining liquid (now infused with the herbs) into a pot on the stove. Add some sea salt and heat. Heat until just warm enough to be hot but not too hot as to be uncomfortable to an eye. Dip cotton ball into warm water and bathe the effected eye(s) with it. Repeat as needed. This is a very pleasant treatment for an rather uncomfortable condition. If after a day or two and no improvement is seen or if the condition has become worst please see your local doctor.

Helps with Infections

"Try it when you want to bring a boil or pimple to a head, dry up herpes blisters, clean an infected wound, or extract a splinter. Applied as a poultice, chickweed stops infection by weakening bacteria cell walls. To use fresh chickweed as a poultice, simply apply the bruised leaves directly, covering the plant matter with a thin layer of gauze or a cabbage leaf. When the plant material gets warm, remove and discard it. Poultice again with fresh chickweed as necessary."(Opening Our Wild Hearts to the Healing Herbs p.91)

Note on wildcrafting chickweed: Make sure to pick your chickweed 50 feet or more from any road and that has not been sprayed by any herbicides or pesticides! Please make sure to correctly identify any plants that you find and if you are unsure ask your local herbalist for assistance!!

CHICKWEED KITCHEN

Tasty (sometimes a little wacky but always fun) recipes for the book Healing Wise by Susun Weed!

Mild Curried Chickweed

serves 4

***

3 tablespoons/ 45 ml olive oil

1 tsp/5 ml cumin seeds

2 tsp/10 ml mustard seeds

1 teaspoon/5 ml turmeric

4 c/ 1 liter fresh chickweed

1 Tbs/15 ml lemon juice

1 tablespoon/ 15 ml tamari

Heat oil in cast iron pan. Add seeds,stir and cook two minutes. Stir in turmeric and cook another minute. Turn off heat. Add chopped chickweed, lemon juice and tamari. Stir well and serve immediately.

Preparation time: 20 minutes: 5 to pick chickweed, 5 to assemble spices, and 10 to cook. Great with basmati rice and yogurt soup on a warm spring evening.

Think Spring Salad

serves 8

4 c/1 liter fresh chickweed

2 c/500 ml fresh watercress

1 c/250 ml fresh flowers (e.g., violets, columbines)

2 tablespoons/30 ml chives

Be careful when you harvest the greens. Leave roots and dirt in the stream and garden; then greens won't need to be washed. Don't wash flowers under any circumstances. Snip chives finely; mix all together. Serve immediately.

Preparation time: 3 hours: 1 hour to walk to the stream and pick watercress; 1 hour to visit with the fairies and pick flowers; 15 minutes to harvest chickweed; 15 minutes to mince chives and fix salad and dressing; 15 minutes to tear greens and decorate salad.

Bacon, Chickweed, and Tomato Sandwich

serves 2

4 slices wholemeal toast

1 Tbs/ 15 ml mayonnaise

1 Tbs/ 15 ml yogurt

1 ripe tomato

3 slices fried bacon

1 c/250 ml fresh chickweed

Combine mayo and yogurt so you won't worry so much about the bacon. Put thick slices of tomato on the mayogurt-spread bread. Add a handful of chopped chickweed, then the bacon. And the last piece of bread. Grin, and bite!

Preparation time: 20-30 minutes, depending on whether or not you can fry bacon, toast bread, and pick chickweed all at the same time. A well-deserved treat on fine fall days.

Chickweed Pesto

1 c/ 250 ml fresh chickweed

1 cup/ 250 ml fresh basil

2 cloves garlic

1/2 cup/125 ml olive oil

Optional:

3-4 oz/ 100g hard cheese

3-4 oz/100g pine nuts

Put all ingredients into your blender or food processor and pray for a smooth melange. If your blender balks, stir and add more oil. If you elect to add nuts and cheese, they may be smushed in the machine at the same time. Great on dandelion noodles.

Preparation time: 15 minutes, unless I hang out to talk with the little star lady. This freezes well. To keep without freezing, put pesto in a jar and pour a good layer of oil right on top; keep cool.

A TRIP TO THE ZOO

Justin, I, Justin's Uncle and his Grandma went to the Virginia Zoo yesterday! We had a great time and saw a ton of animals! It seems that stuff that was cool to me as a kid but un-cool as a teenager is now cool again. Like, for example, the zoo. I liked it as a kid, not very interested as a teen and now love it! It was like I never had seen an elephant before! I was that excited (I think I need to get out more). This lead me to wonder if other adults felt as I do. Are there places, things, etc in your life that you enjoyed as a kid and now find just as, if not more, enjoyable as an adult?

EASY VEGGIE SOUP

This yummy, easy vegetable soup has become one of Justin and my favorites! You basically just chop, put in a big pot, add water, heat and eat! We often will add in some rice, eggs, or noodles to help round out this simple meal.

INGREDIENTS:

1/2 large onion-sliced

6 cloves garlic-finely chopped

5 carrots-sliced

1 and 1/2 to two cups frozen peas

olive oil

1 tsp salt

large soup pot

and six cups of water

Slice onion and chop garlic and add to soup pot. Into soup pot add some olive oil. Saute on low to medium heat onion and garlic until onion is clear.

Make sure not to burn the garlic. Peel and chop carrots while onion and garlic are cooking. Add six cups of water, carrots, and peas to soup pot after onion and garlic are done cooking. Bring water to a boil and then simmer for forty-five minutes.

Add salt during the last five minutes of cooking and enjoy!!!

I have been thinking flowers, flowers, flowers, lately! I wonder why? Could it really be all of the wonderful colorful blooming plants everywhere around me? No! That can't be it! LOL!

I found this flower and I really love the colors that have been added to it. It almost looks like you could really find a flower like this in your own backyard. It would be a flower that is just yellow and "normal" when looked at from the front but turn it around and you would get a colorful surprise! This makes me wish that neon colors were used more in nature!

This is jewelry that is colorful and elegant with a bit of fun thrown in. This jewelry was made by a women from Turkey and she gets all of her beautiful beads from Istanbul. She is super friendly and we had a great time talking and getting to know each other.

Justin's Grandma and his Uncle came to visit us at our booth. It was really nice to see them and his Grandma bought some of my bath salt.

LUNCH TIME

Justin and I bring our lunch to shows because of my digestive issues and we're vegetarians and can't eat too many hotdogs and the like. We got lunch from Sea Side; the one and only vegetarian restaurant on the Outer Banks of NC!! We took some pictures because half eaten food pictures are cool and we were very bored!!

DIGESTIVE TEAS

Some great teas to help soothe your digestion. I found them going though an old herbalism school notebook today and decided to pass them on.

Enjoy :)

FOUR CALMATIVE COMBO

1 part anise seed

1 part fennel (leaves or seed)

1 part grated fresh ginger root

1 part spearmint leaves

Put in a small pot anise, fennel, and ginger.

Add one and one half cups water

Bring to a boil and than turn down to a simmer

Simmer for five minutes

Turn off heat and add spearmint

Cover and steep 15 minutes

HELPS WITH DIGESTION AND EASES CRAMPS

1 part chamomile flowers

1 part grated fresh ginger root

1/4 cup cow, soy, rice, or almond milk

honey, or maple syrup to taste

Bring to a boil, in a small pot, a cup and a half of water

Add herbs and cover

Infuse for 15 minutes

Strain out herbs and add milk and sweetener

Sip before bedtime or after dinner

DIGESTIVE TEA/HELPS WITH SORE THROAT AND COUGH

1 part grated ginger root

1 part lemon verbena leaves

1 part peppermint leaves

8 parts licorice root

Infuse in hot water and enjoy

LUNCH WITH SEAGULLS

Yesterday the weather was finally nice enough for my BF and I to eat lunch on the beach!! It was not too windy or hot or cold.

We found a great spot and spread out our towel.

We took off our shoes and began to eat our lunch.

As we eat we took a few pictures of the water and a few seagulls where hanging out on the sand close by.

Justin (BF) took a little nap while I finished eating.

We suddenly noticed....

That a few seagulls where getting closer and closer to our little towel!

One gull was very close to us.

It was a little scary until we realized that the birds were begging!! They wanted some of our lunch!! It was really funny to see a bird acting like a little dog or cat. To bad, for the gulls, we had no food left to give them. :)
